Video of the Week: "'Places' by Shane Koyczan"

I love spoken word’s power in calling for social change. Check out this new video from Shane Koyczan on homelessness:

Here’s what I’m thinking about:

  • At the beginning of the poem, Koyczan calls out our disdain for the places we have. Do you have the attitude he shared to school/work? Explain.

  • What’s your gut response when you see a person who is homeless?

  • How can we create places for those struggling with homelessness?

  • What are some of the ways Koyczan cites as causes of homelessness?

  • Koyczan expresses that “Diversion has taken the place of focus.” Do you see this as being true in yourself? in others? How should we respond to this pull?
